Vehicle Outfitting & Preparation Class

The 4x4 Center of Vermont is an Off-Road Driving Center, that is also full automotive repair shop that builds and repairs four wheel drive vehicles. The same level of effort that goes into planning extensive builds for our customers, comes through to our classes. We love talking parts, strategy, and builds. Regardless of whether you are headed out with friends or, participating in a military operation, preparation is key to the success of your day. We're ready to help you decide how your vehicles should be prepared for different uses like overlanding, off-road use, tactical missions, and more.

PREPARING MISSION SPECIFIC VEHICLES

Outfitting a vehicle for a specific mission begins with selecting the correct vehicle. Just because you have a vehicle on hand, or receive a discount for a certain brand, doesn't make it the perfect vehicle for the job. When the vehicle platform, tools, and equipment are not designed in harmony, carrying out the mission may not be possible. For this reason, it is important to first define the mission - will it be sand, snow, dirt, rock, or pavement that you will be driving on? What kind of obstacles might you run into along the way? What will you be carrying & how much does it weigh? And, what is the best, and worst case scenario that the driver may encounter along the way? Every trip and environment offers a different challenge. Preparing the wrong way costs time and money, and sacrifices productivity. The 4x4 Center has a wealth of experience preparing vehicles, and is ready to help prepare yours for the job at hand.

RECEIVE CONSULTING ON HOW TO SET UP VEHICLES

Using a bumper-to-bumper methodology, we discuss opportunities for vehicle improvement, weak points, stress points, and strong points. Our interactive style of teaching keeps participants engaged and providing details that create better solutions, as we develop your outfitting strategy. This ensures your teams can operate flawlessly once we step away from the conversation. The following components will be scrutinized as we brainstorm and offer solutions for fitment:

Vehicle Platform

  • Gearing
  • Suspension
  • Tires
  • Drivetrain

Tools and Spare Parts

  • Common tools to pack the issues you may experience on your vehicle.
  • Parts and consumables.

CRITICAL VEHICLE INSPECTIONS

One thing is certain; parts will wear and fail at some point in time. By inspecting vehicles before and after use, you can mitigate the problems that you will encounter in the field, by fixing them in the garage. In this class we go bumper-to-bumper discussing common failure points and strategies to build a pre & post vehicle inspection list that’s tailored to your needs & vehicle.

FIELD REPAIR & TRAINING

When things go wrong, having the best vehicle and all the tools won't help if you don't know how to use them. This class is rounded off with training that touches on common mechanical failures, how to troubleshoot them, and how to repair them in the field. For instance, participants learn how to identify why a vehicle will not start.. Training like this is just as invaluable to the team, as it is the individual.
